Exterius Supports Sutton Community with Pro Bono Steam Cleaning Project
Exterius has completed a complimentary steam cleaning project in support of Royal Sutton Coldfield BID, helping enhance recently regenerated public spaces along Birmingham Road.
After noticing new lavender planting installed as part of Sutton BID’s improvement works, Clare from the Exterius team identified an opportunity to make a further positive impact. While the planting brought colour and vibrancy to the area, the surrounding brick planters showed visible algae growth and staining, particularly along the lower courses where moisture had built up over time.
Recognising that professional steam cleaning could restore the brickwork and help showcase the new planting properly, Exterius offered to carry out the works free of charge.
Taking Pride in the Places We Work
The brick planters had accumulated organic growth across their surfaces, creating uneven discolouration and visible green staining at ground level.
Using controlled steam cleaning methods, the Exterius team removed the algae safely and effectively, restoring the natural tone of the brickwork and improving the overall appearance of the public space.
Care was taken to protect the newly planted lavender and surrounding areas throughout the process.
The result was a clear visual improvement, particularly across the lower brick courses where staining had been most prominent. The refreshed brickwork now better reflects the investment Sutton BID has made in the area’s regeneration.
